L'Estaminet du Welsh

The home of welsh, at 45 rue de Gand. With cheddar, with Maroilles, with both or as a burger, in a laid-back atmosphere.

The house

Here, welsh is not a line on the menu: it is the reason the house exists. It is served in a traditional estaminet setting, copper on the walls and wooden tables, in a laid-back atmosphere. You come to treat yourself, generously, without asking questions.

The house is the most recent of our Lille addresses, and it has kept that spirit: a warm welcome, simple cooking, and plates whose bottom you rarely see.

The terrace opens onto rue de Gand as soon as the weather allows.

Which welsh to choose?

The traditional, to start with: a slice of bread soaked in beer, mustard, ham, cheddar melted in beer, and a turn in the oven. It is the recipe that came from Wales, as the North adopted it.

The welsh with Maroilles replaces the cheddar with the local cheese, which is stronger. The amoureux refuses to choose and marries the two. The welsh burger slips a beef patty, bacon, tomatoes and onions under a cheddar and beer sauce. And for the very hungry, the giant welsh, the traditional in XXL.

The traditional comes in a vegetarian version. A fried egg can be added to any of them.

All come with fresh fries from the region and salad. And for those who did not come for the cheese, the menu keeps carbonade, potjevleesch, chicken with Maroilles and two salads.

For dessert, ice cream sundaes that take you back to childhood, and chicory crème brûlée.
